The stunning woodblock print 'Fuji saku Sankan, 2' (Wisteria Blooming in the Mountains, 2) by Kazuyuki Ohtsu beautifully captures the Hoshi-touge Rice Terrace in Tokamachi, Niigata Prefecture. Mr. Ohtsu shared that this location is his favorite spot. The print showcases wild wisteria trees in full bloom, painting the mountainside a vibrant shade of purple and creating a mesmerizing sight. This setting holds a special place in the artist's heart, adding even more significance to the piece.
The Hoshi-touge Rice Terrace has been recognized as one of the "100 Best Villages in Japan" for its exceptional beauty. In this print, you can see the peaceful mountain village bathed in the warm glow of sunset. A lone farmer, a soaring bird, and a delicate butterfly blend nicely into the scene, adding a touch of romance. The sunset’s reflection on the rice paddy water is depicted with exquisite detail, enhanced by the use of mica and wood grain textures.
