Artist: Koho Ohuchi
Technique: Woodblock (Koguchii Mokuhan)
* "木口木版- Koguchi Mokuhan" (Wood-engraving) uses the end grain of the hardwood such as boxwood or camellia into round slices. (In general woodblock prints, woodblock cut out in the vertical direction are used.) When carving woodblock, a special tool called an engraver's burin is used. It can create thin and delicate lines. There are not many woodblock print artists who use this method these days.
Paper size: 7 and 3/4 inches by 6 and 1/4 inches (19.6 x 15.8 cm)
Image size: 5 and 3/4 inches by 4 inches (14.8 x 10.2 cm)
Date: 1985
Signed: Artist's red seal "Koho" on the lower right.
Condition: Very good condition. The two faintest spots on verso. It shows the faintest spot on the lower right margin from the front. However, it is hardly noticeable and will be matted out. Please see the picture.

The charming woodblock print "Niwa tazumi" (Heavy Rainfall) is by Katsuyuki Nishijima. First printed in 1998. Please note this is a small size print paper height is 6 inches and the width is 8 inches. Wonderful details with strong colors. Excellent shading, bold colors, and strong ink bleed-through. Nishijima uses old words as a title, which people are not used to using in their daily lives recently. Sometimes I ask Nishijima directly. I think he wants to put Japanese spirits or cultures which have been forgotten into his art. Nishijima's umbrella prints are very attractive and popular.
