About Raicho
The rock ptarmigan (Lagopus muta) is a medium-sized gamebird in the grouse family. In Japan, it is known as the raicho, which means "Thunderbird". It is the official bird of Gifu, Nagano, and Toyama Prefectures and is a protected species nationwide.

This print is so well illustrated because you can almost feel the lively atmosphere just from looking at this print. Personally, I like the gentle lights through Shoji (Japanese washi paper windows and lanterns), it brings a heartwarming atmosphere. First printed in 1938. This is a later edition. Block-signed "Toshi Yoshida" English title "Shinjuku"(impressed) on the bottom margin. Dated "Showa 13 nen (1938)" and Japanese title "Yoru no Tokyo, Shinjuku" (Shinjuku, Night in Tokyo) in Japanese on the left margin.
