The beautiful woodblock print 'Takuan-zenji Kaminoyama Harusame-an' (Harusame-an in the Rain) is by Tomikichiro Tokuriki (1902–2000). This print captures the tranquility of Harusame-an (hermitage) in the rain. This small hermitage was built for Takuan-zenji (1573–1645), a very famous Buddhist prelate. It is said that Takuan-zenji loved this small, tranquil, and tasteful hermitage, especially during the spring rainy season. I imagine that the artist wanted to express the beauty of the hermitage in the rain, which Takuan-zenji loved. The artist's signature, "Tomi," with the artist's red seal and hand-signed "T. Tokuriki" in pencil, are in the lower right corner of the image. The Japanese title, "Takuan-zenji Kaminoyama Harusame-an," dated "Showa 58 nen Shohan" (first edition, 1983), and edition number '28/300' are on the right margin. A watermark is also present on the lower right margin.
