- Rakusei Rakusisha (Rakusisha, Kyoto) -

A serene small woodblock print, 'Rakusei Rakushisha' (Rakushisha, Kyoto), by Tomikichiro Tokuriki (1902–2000), captures the peaceful scenery of Rakushisha, a hermitage in Sagano, Kyoto, set against a backdrop of bamboo groves and persimmon trees.

On the wall next to the entrance, a straw raincoat and a straw hat are hanging. These serve as signs indicating whether the abbot is present or absent: if the straw raincoat and hat are hanging, the abbot is present; if they are not, the abbot is out. However, they are always displayed as a symbol of Rakushisha. This detail adds a tasteful and charming atmosphere.

The title 'Rakusei Rakushisha' is in the upper right margin. The artist's signature, "Tomi," and the artist's red seal are in the upper left corner of the image.
