Ryoan-ji (Temple of the Dragon at Peace) is a Zen temple located in northwest Kyoto, Japan. The Ryoan-ji garden is considered one of the finest surviving examples of dry landscape, a refined type of Japanese Zen temple garden design generally featuring distinctive larger rock formations arranged amidst a sweep of smooth pebbles (small, carefully selected polished river rocks) raked into linear patterns that facilitate meditation. The temple and its gardens are listed as one of the Historic Monuments of Ancient Kyoto, and as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This temple is one of my favorite temples in Kyoto.

Komyo-ji temple
Famous as a temple for viewing autumn leaves, both sides of the stone stairway are colored a brilliant red during late autumn. Komyo-ji was founded in 1175, and is one of the eight head temples of JHODO sect, the major Buddhist denominations, and located in Sakyo Ward, Kyoto. Occasionally, aristocrats and ordinary people got together with the imagination that the Pure Land lies far beyond the sinking sun to pray that they might reborn in the Pure Land
