Himeji Castle is located in Himeji, Hyogo Prefecture. It was built in 1609. It’s called "Shirasagi-jo"(Egret Castle), because of its beautiful appearance, which looks like a white egret spreading its wings.

Himeji Castle was built in 1609. It's one of the twelve existing towers in Japan and has been preserved since it was built. This print shows the Himeji Castle during the major renovations in the Showa period. The main tower in the castle is surrounded by wooden scaffolds for a major renovation.
