The wonderful woodblock print "Kotoshidake" (Young Bamboo and Sparrows) is by Tomikichiro Tokuriki (1902-1999). Very large size print. This print features a peaceful scene of young bamboo and sparrows in a tranquil setting. The colors are vibrant and the details are exquisite. The title, artist name, and publisher's name "Matsukyu" on the right margin. Block sign "Tomi" with a red seal "Tomi" on the lower right corner of the image. Hand-signed "T. Tokuriki" in pencil and the edition number on the bottom of the image. (right side).
When he produced this print, he was 93 years old. Under a red seal, he added a handwritten "93" in Japanese Kanji. According to his explanation note, this is the image of his garden, he loves to see growing young bamboo in his garden every year. It is hard to take care of them by fertilizing them during the winter, but he loves to see this scenery in the spring and is looking forward to next year.

Amazing woodblock print "Ushibori no Yugure" (Twilight at Ushibori) is by Kawase Hasui (1883-1957). First printed in 1930 originally by Kawaguchi & Sakai; this is a later printing by Shobisha from original blocks. Shobisha obtained the original blocks in about 1950. Gotemba is a city on the southeastern flank of Mount Fuji in Shizuoka Prefecture. Gotemba was the location of the earliest known settlement founded in the region of Shizuoka which dates back 2,000 years ago.
曼珠沙華 (Spider Lily)
The Japanese common name Higanbana (彼岸花, Higan bana) for Spider Lily literally means “flower of higan (the other shore of Sanzu River, or a Buddist holiday around the autumnal equinox)”. In Japan, the red spider lily signals the arrival of fall. Another popular Japanese name is Manjushage (曼珠沙華, Manjusha-ge), taken from the name of a mythical flower described in the Chinese translation of the Lotus Sutra. It is called by over 1000 other local names in Japan.

The beautiful woodblock print "Unzen Amakusa Kokuritsu Koen" (Unzen Amakusa National Park) is by Hideo Nishiyama (1911-1989). Phenomenal nature image of Unzen Amakusa National Park with Mount Unzen. Printer: Shinmi, Carver: Nagashima, and Unsodo publisher seal on the left margin. Title "Unzen Amakusa Kokuritsu Koen" (Unzen Amakusa National Park), Artist's name "Nishiyama Hideo saku" and dated "Showa 35 nen" (1960) in Japanese on the right margin. "Gei" watermark on the upper left margin corner. Very different and unique style woodblock print. Hard to find these old original first edition prints nowadays.
Hideo Nishiyama (1911 - 1989) was born in Kyoto. He was a well-known (Nihon-ga) Japanese painting artist in Japan. Unsodo published "The Woodblock Prints -National Parks Series" by Hideo Nishiyama and Kaii Higashiyama in 1960.

The stunning and rare woodblock print "Kuramae Kokugi-kan" (The Kuramae Sumo Arena) is by Junichiro Sekino. From Oku no hosomichi series. Kuramae Kokugi-kan was built by the Japan Sumo Association in Kuramae, Taito-ku, Tokyo. Even though it is a heavy snowy day, many audiences and sumo wrestlers are around there. This print captured the lively scene in those days very well. Artist's red seal "Seki" on the lower right corner of the image. Dated "1985", Hand-signed "Jun Sekino", sheet number "46/128", and the watermark "Jun Sekino" on the bottom margin.

Amazing woodblock print "Ueno Kiyomizudo no Yuki" (Snow at Ueno Kiyomizudo) is by Hasui Kawase (1883-1957). Excellent shading throughout with fine gradation of raised snowflakes and accumulation. First printed in July 1929 originally by Kawaguchi & Sakai (1929-30); this is a later printing by Shobisha from original blocks. Shobisha obtained the original blocks in about 1950. Signed Hasui with red artist seal "sui". The bottom margin contains Title "Ueno Kiyomizudo no Yuki" (Snow at Ueno Kiyomizudo) and the date "Showa 4 nen 7 gatsu saku"(Printed in July 1929) in Japanese. Finely carved details and excellent colors. A true classic Hasui print of the highest order. This print has a most peaceful quality. Please see the pictures.

"Shiba Benten Ike" (Pond at Shiba Benten) is by Kawase Hasui (1883-1957). Excellent shading throughout with light embossing to the lotus leaves and women on the footbridge. First printed in 1929 originally by Kawaguchi & Sakai; this is a later printing by Shobisha from original blocks. Shobisha obtained the original blocks in about 1950.
