The wonderful woodblock print "Shiroi Hana"(White Flower) is by Iwao Akiyama (1921- 2014). Printed on tasteful Japanese washi paper. Very large size. The poem on the top is a famous haiku (poem) by Santoka. It says "It was a white flower that finally bloomed". Santoka describes the white flower in his book. To put it simply, when he was young, he admired and searched for colorful red and blue flowers. The red flowers withered and crumbled, and the blue flowers were nowhere to be found.
At that time, when he found a small white flower hidden in the wild bush clover, he smelled such a pure and noble scent, and he realized what he was looking for was a white flower. Through his life experience, he learned the value of simple beauty, not the glamorous appearance. I imagine that the artist probably felt the same feeling when he saw this loving woman's white back. This print has a touching subject.
