The dramatic Stencil print "Ryokuei" (Fresh Green) is by Kan Kawada (1927-1999). Very striking print. Japanese title "Ryokuei", dated '90, sheet number 11/68, signed by hand on the bottom margin. Sprinkled with metallic mica flakes on the green colors as shown. Very lovely. Kan Kawada was originally "Katazome" (Stencil dyeing) artist, however, he created many beautiful stencil prints like this. He is a well-known artist, especially outside Japan. Kawada's striking red color and dynamic composition are very attractive for his worldwide collectors. After his death (1999), his art prices went up quickly, also it is hard to find his small limited edition print. This print is only 68 limited edition.

First printed in 1926 by the Isetasu publisher, this is a later printing by Shobisha from the original blocks. Shobisha obtained the original blocks around 1950 from Isetasu. The beautiful woodblock print 'Takuan-zenji Kaminoyama Harusame-an' (Harusame-an in the Rain) is by Tomikichiro Tokuriki (1902–2000). This print captures the tranquility of Harusame-an (hermitage) in the rain. This small hermitage was built for Takuan-zenji (1573–1645), a very famous Buddhist prelate. It is said that Takuan-zenji loved this small, tranquil, and tasteful hermitage, especially during the spring rainy season. I imagine that the artist wanted to express the beauty of the hermitage in the rain, which Takuan-zenji loved. The artist's signature, "Tomi," with the artist's red seal and hand-signed "T. Tokuriki" in pencil, are in the lower right corner of the image. The Japanese title, "Takuan-zenji Kaminoyama Harusame-an," dated "Showa 58 nen Shohan" (first edition, 1983), and edition number '28/300' are on the right margin. A watermark is also present on the lower right margin.
