- Ashura, 1963 -

This expressive monochrome woodblock print, Untitled (Ashura), by Kihei Sasajima depicts Ashura (阿修羅) with remarkable strength and quiet dignity. Sharply simplified forms and striking black-and-white contrast give the image a meditative yet powerful presence.

Kihei Sasajima (1906–1993) was born in Tochigi Prefecture. Influenced by Shiko Munakata and Unichi Hiratsuka, he devoted his artistic career to black-and-white woodblock prints.
