This attractive stencil print (called Kappa-ban) "Murasaki Shikibu"(Lady Murasaki) is by Yoshitoshi Mori (1898-1992). Already matted (double mat) and ready to frame. Very famous novel "Genji Monogatari" (The Tale of Genji), which was written by Lady Murasaki-Shikibu in the Heian Period. The novel chronicled the life of Prince Genji and the people around him in the court. Countless stories, films, poems, and paintings have been made after this classic masterpiece of Japanese literature.

The beautiful woodblock print "Shiki Kacho -zu" (Birds and Flowers of the Four seasons) is by Hoitsu Sakai (1761–1828). Hoitsu Sakai was a very famous Japanese Nihon-ga painter of the Rinpa school. He is known for having revived the style and popularity of Korin Ogata, and for having created a number of reproductions of Kōrin's work. This print was published by Kyoto Tansei-sha in 1983 as a limited edition of 100. Publisher seal, edition number, printer's name "Kurazo Yoneda", and carver's name "Sadao Uetani" in the left margin. Sprinkled gold leaves into the image. Very elegant and sophisticated design.

Teruhide Kato had studied at Kyoto Art College. He was a famous kimono fashion designer. When he was 50 years old, he decided to follow his real passion and became a traditional Kyoto woodblock artist. Success remained with the artist. After a gallery exhibition in New York and a book publication of his works titled "Kyoto Romance", he is as famous as a woodblock artist as he used to be as a kimono designer. Unfortunately, he passed away in 2015.

Shōjō (猩々, heavy drinker or orangutan) is a kind of Japanese sea spirit with a red face and hair and a fondness for alcohol. The legend is the subject of a Noh play of the same name. There is a Noh mask for this character, as well as a type of Kabuki stage makeup. Unique Japanese woodblock print, Sumo wrestler portrait "Chiyonofuji Mitsugu" is by Motoki Matsubayashi (b. 1948). Title "Chiyonofuji Mitsugu" (Sumo Wrestler's name) on the lower right corner of the image. Artist signature "Motoki" on the lower left corner of the image. Limited edition size of 100. Motoki Matsubayashi is well known Modern Sumo artist and illustrator (mostly his subjects are Sumo wrestlers or Rakugo artists).
Chiyonofuji was the 58th Yokozuna (most highest rank). He was one of the greatest yokozuna of recent times. He was particularly remarkable for his longevity in sumo's top rank. Promoted at the age of twenty-six after winning his second championship, his performance improved with age, winning more tournaments in his thirties than any other wrestler and dominating the sport in the second half of the 1980s. Beautiful woodblock print "Asakusa Yomise" (The Night-Stall at Asakusa) is by Kiyochika Kobayashi (1847-1915). This is a re-carved edition. Originally printed in 1881. This print was published by Art sha. Title on the bottom margin, date "Meiji 14 nen"(1881), Original Publisher name "Kumajiro Fukuda" and Artist name "Kiyochika Kobayashi" on the right margin. Artist's signature on the lower-left corner of the image. Impressive are the figures, the looks, and the silhouettes of the people there lighted up with candles or the lamp of acetylene gas. Red lanterns like a ground cherry and the green color of the trees make this scene more graceful.

Kaimami no Tsuki, Kaoyo (A Glimpse of the Moon - Kaoyo) from Tsuki Hyakushi (One Hundred Aspects of the Moon)
Very beautiful woodblock print is by Yoshitoshi Tsukioka (1839-1892). "垣間見の月 かほよ Kaimami no Tsuki, Kaoyo” (A Glimpse of the Moon - Kaoyo) from Tsuki Hyakushi (One Hundred Aspects of the Moon), is a re-carved edition from the Showa era. First printed in 1886 (Meiji 19nen). Signed on the lower left of the image. This elegant re-carved edition is by Ukiyo-e Hanga Kankokai. Published by Nihon Bijutsuga kai. This reproduction set was sold only by the publisher in those days, not at dealers or bookstores. So it is really difficult to find nowadays. Copy right seal, Carver's name, Kenji Okura, Printer's name, Akio Watanabe on the verso. Selected great two carvers (Maeda and Okura) and two printers (Tanaka and Watanabe) worked on this project. It is a really high-quality print. The carving and the printing is faithful to the original. Just stunning and beautiful. Please see the details.
Tsukioka Yoshitoshi (1839-1892) is a very famous Ukiyo-e artist. In 1850, when he was 11 years old, Yoshitoshi was apprenticed to Utagawa Kuniyoshi, one of the great masters of the Japanese woodblock print. Yoshitoshi created modern ukiyo-e depicting warriors, actors, and Bijin.
