This charming woodblock print, 'Playing with Fireflies', from the series 'The Life of Japanese Children', is by Keiko Yurimoto (1906–2000). It depicts children in summer kimono trying to catch fireflies or play with them at night, filled with excitement. This was a common pastime in those days, but now fireflies are rarely seen, and such play is becoming less common. Published in 1957 by Kyoto Hanga-in, the artist's signature, "Keiko," along with her red seal, is located in the lower-right corner of the image. This print is a fantastic choice for collectors looking to create a stunning framed display celebrating Japanese culture and tradition.

Keiko Yurimoto was born in Kyoto in 1906. Her Japanese paintings (Bijin-ga—"beautiful woman" paintings) are known for their gentleness, reflecting her perspective as a female artist. This particular child-themed design is also colorful and charming. Notably, her bijin-ga work is housed in the National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto.
