- Hira no Bosetsu (Evening Snow at Mount Hira) from the series “Eight Views of Ōmi Province"

The amazing woodblock print “Hira no Bosetsu” (Evening Snow at Mount Hira), from Tomikichiro Tokuriki’s rare and highly regarded Ōmi Hakkei (Eight Views of Ōmi Province) series, is a hand-signed, limited-edition work.

“Evening Snow at Hira” is the only winter scene among the Eight Views of Ōmi. This beautiful composition depicts snow falling over the Hira mountain range at dusk. Stretching along the western shore of Lake Biwa, the mountains are blanketed in snow, and the continuous snowfall creates a truly fantastical view.

The print is signed “T. Tokuriki” and numbered in pencil in the lower right margin. The Japanese title and the artist’s signature “Tomi,” accompanied by his red seal, appear in the upper right. The right margin also includes “Ōmi Hakkei” (the series title), “Shohan” (First Edition), and “Hanmoto Matsukyu” (the publisher’s name, Matsukyu). The lower right corner of the image bears the watermark “Toku.”

This location has inspired many Japanese artists over the years, and Tokuriki’s interpretation beautifully captures its calm spirit and poetic charm.
