Amazing woodblock print "Ushibori no Yugure" (Twilight at Ushibori) is by Kawase Hasui (1883-1957). First printed in 1930 originally by Kawaguchi & Sakai; this is a later printing by Shobisha from original blocks. Shobisha obtained the original blocks in about 1950. Signed Hasui with red artist seal "sui". The bottom margin contains the title "Ushibori no Yugure" and "Showa 5 nen saku"(printed in 1930) in Japanese. Very wonderful "bokashi" shading through print with finely carved details. Old master quality. Very Japanese mood, very soft romantic colors beautiful and delicate. A true classic Hasui print of the highest order.

Japanese woodblock print "Setonaikai no Getsumei" (Moonlight at the Seto Inland Sea) is by Shintaro Okazaki (Ca. 1950's). A phenomenal ocean image at night with a fisherman boat. The Seto Inland Sea is the sea separating Honshu from Shikoku and Kyushu. Title "Setonaikai no Getsumei", "Unsodo", publisher's seal, "Okura", carver's seal, and "Harada", printer's seal on the left margin. According to the publisher, Shintaro Okazaki is a lesser-known Shin Hanga artist who published with Unsodo in Kyoto. However, they have not been able to find any information about his life.

Gotemba is a city on the southeastern flank of Mount Fuji in Shizuoka Prefecture. Gotemba was the location of the earliest known settlement founded in the region of Shizuoka which dates back 2,000 years ago.
曼珠沙華 (Spider Lily)
The Japanese common name Higanbana (彼岸花, Higan bana) for Spider Lily literally means “flower of higan (the other shore of Sanzu River, or a Buddist holiday around the autumnal equinox)”. In Japan, the red spider lily signals the arrival of fall. Another popular Japanese name is Manjushage (曼珠沙華, Manjusha-ge), taken from the name of a mythical flower described in the Chinese translation of the Lotus Sutra. It is called by over 1000 other local names in Japan.

Wonderful woodblock print "Kōnominato" - Tsukushi gokei (Kōnominato from the series Five Scenes of Tsukushi) is by Hanjiro Sakamoto (1882-1969). Originally published in Taisho 7 (1918). This is a later printing by Kato Hanga Kenkyusho in Showa 45 (1970). Limited edition of 300 prints published. Carver is Kentaro Maeda, Printer is Bunji Yokoyama.
Kōnominato is a famous fish village located in Munakata City, Fukuoka, facing the rough seas of the Genkai Sea and it is also a popular scenic area. The title "Kōnominato" on the lower-left corner of the image. Artist's red seal "Hanjiro" and the embossed publisher's seal "Hanmoto Kato Hanga Kenkyusho" on the lower right margin. Very rare print.
Hanjiro Sakamoto (1882 - 1969) was born in Fukuoka prefecture. He is a well-known Western-style painter. His artworks combine special soft colors, and the theme of the paintings is the scenery, which gives a sense of familiarity.
