Hiroshige Utagawa (1797 - 1858)
$ 149.00
The beautiful woodblock print ’Fuji Jū-Nikei no Uchi, Tōto Kinegawa Tanbo' (Rice Paddies at Kinegawa, from Twelve Views of Mt. Fuji) is by Hiroshige Ando (1797–1858). The print captures a serene view of Kinegawa village in winter. Beyond the expansive rice fields lies a winter-bare forest, and in the distance, snow-covered Mount Fuji towers over the landscape. This is the scenery of Kinoshitagawa village, where time flows quietly and slowly. A horse carrying a pile of pine trees for New Year's Kadomatsu decorations walks along, while people inside a thatched-roof house are pounding rice cakes for the New Year. This work appears to have been created in December when preparations for the New Year are underway.
The title "Tōto Kinegawa Tanbo", "Hiroshige" red seal, and embossed seal are in the left of the image. When Hiroshige was in his late 50s, he drew this series (Twelve Views of Mt. Fuji). They were originally sketchbooks/picture albums of hand-painting. They are very delicate, and the subtle colors are beautiful. This woodblock print is a high-quality Fukkoku Mokuhan (reproduction woodblock print) by Yoshio Kawazura (1880–1963). Printed in Taisho 14 (1925). This is rarely on the market. It is still tipped on the original folder.
Technique: Woodblock
Paper size: 14 and 1/8 inches by 9 inches (36 x 23 cm)
Folder size: 19 and 1/2 inches by 13 and 3/4 inches (49.5 x 35 cm)
Signed: "Hiroshige" red seal in the lower left corner of the image.
Date: Printed in 1925

Hiroshige Utagawa (1797 - 1858)

The serene woodblock print "Fuji Jū-Nikei no uchi, Shinano Suwa-ko" (Lake Suwa in Shinano Province, from Twelve Views of Mt. Fuji) is by Hiroshige Ando (1797–1858). They were originally sketchbooks/picture albums of hand-painted images. They are very delicate, and the subtle colors are beautiful. This woodblock print is a high-quality Fukkoku Mokuhan (reproduction woodblock print) by Yoshio Kawazura (1880–1963), printed in Taisho 14 (1925). This is rarely on the market. The lovely woodblock print 'Sakura' is by Kan Kozaki (b. 1942) and is printed on delicate and tasteful Japanese washi paper. The image depicts a woman surrounded by scattering cherry blossom petals, capturing the ephemeral beauty of the blossoms. The image part has very slight pink tint
Accompanied by a haiku by Santoka Taneda, a revered poet of the early 20th century, the print further conveys the transient nature of life and the sense of wanderlust evoked by the cherry blossoms. The haiku, "The cherry blossoms bloomed, and I am a traveler," poignantly reflects on the fleeting nature of the blossoms and life itself.
Cherry blossoms hold deep cultural significance in Japan, symbolizing love, beauty, and the impermanence of life. They have inspired poets, monks, and travelers for centuries, serving as a reminder to cherish the beauty in fleeting moments.
