Amazing woodblock print "Ushibori no Yugure" (Twilight at Ushibori) is by Kawase Hasui (1883-1957). First printed in 1930 originally by Kawaguchi & Sakai; this is a later printing by Shobisha from original blocks. Shobisha obtained the original blocks in about 1950. Signed Hasui with red artist seal "sui". The bottom margin contains the title "Ushibori no Yugure" and "Showa 5 nen saku"(printed in 1930) in Japanese. Very wonderful "bokashi" shading through print with finely carved details. Old master quality. Very Japanese mood, very soft romantic colors beautiful and delicate. A true classic Hasui print of the highest order.

Japanese woodblock print "Setonaikai no Getsumei" (Moonlight at the Seto Inland Sea) is by Shintaro Okazaki (Ca. 1950's). A phenomenal ocean image at night with a fisherman boat. The Seto Inland Sea is the sea separating Honshu from Shikoku and Kyushu. Title "Setonaikai no Getsumei", "Unsodo", publisher's seal, "Okura", carver's seal, and "Harada", printer's seal on the left margin. According to the publisher, Shintaro Okazaki is a lesser-known Shin Hanga artist who published with Unsodo in Kyoto. However, they have not been able to find any information about his life.

Hideo Nishiyama (1911 - 1989) was born in Kyoto. He was a well-known (Nihon-ga) Japanese painting artist in Japan. Unsodo published "The Woodblock Prints -National Parks Series" by Hideo Nishiyama and Kaii Higashiyama in 1960.

The dramatic Stencil print "Ryokuei" (Fresh Green) is by Kan Kawada (1927-1999). Very striking print. Japanese title "Ryokuei", dated '90, sheet number 11/68, signed by hand on the bottom margin. Sprinkled with metallic mica flakes on the green colors as shown. Very lovely. Kan Kawada was originally "Katazome" (Stencil dyeing) artist, however, he created many beautiful stencil prints like this. He is a well-known artist, especially outside Japan. Kawada's striking red color and dynamic composition are very attractive for his worldwide collectors. After his death (1999), his art prices went up quickly, also it is hard to find his small limited edition print. This print is only 68 limited edition.

Amazing woodblock print "Edogawadutsumi kara Ichikawabashishita wo miru" (View of under the Ichikawa bridge from Edogawa) is by Gihachiro Okuyama (1907-1981). Okuyama is well known as the artist of peaceful scenery in Japan. Very highly detailed carving of water. Amazing beautiful colors and bokashi shading. Please see the skillful realistic reflection on the water's surface. And please notice an animal on the hill and people and drying clothes on the boat. You can see a peaceful view of the Japanese countryside. Original signed limited edition "MT. FUJI" is by Clifton Karhu. Absolutely stunning and rare his very early print. This print shows it’s old age though still full of bold colors and strong impression of Karhu’s talents that makes his works so highly desirable. Now seldom is an original Clifton Karhu print for sale much less one from his very early prints; his first woodblock was 1963 when he turned his attention away from oils and watercolors.
