Highly unusual hand made woodblock print by Yoshitoshi Tsukioka (1839-1892). "Hazukashisou - Fuzoku 32 sou no uchi" ( Looks Shy - Customs and manners 32 aspects) this is re-carved edition. First printed Meiji 21nen (1888) by Kamekichi Tsunashima. Signed on the left of image. This elegant larger re-carved edition by Soudosha Publishers from a limited edition series of only 980 sheets and published on October 1, 1977. Still tipped to original presentation folder. Beautifully embossed. Strong colors. This print shows young woman in Meiji Era. She is biting the sleeve of Kimono. When young woman is shy, woman shows this gesture. This is typical gesture of young Japanese woman in those days. You can see this gesture often in Japanese traditional dance.

It was quite fresh and different impression. Also this print was very modern Bijin-ga print in those days. Very vivid colors. Beautifully embossed..
Tsukioka Yoshitoshi(1839-1892) is very famous Ukiyo-e artist. In 1850, when he was 11 years old, Yoshitoshi was apprenticed to Utagawa Kuniyoshi, one of great masters of the Japanese woodblock print. Yoshitoshi created modern ukiyo-e depicting warriors, actors and Bijin.
