The Tanuki statue is a symbol of Shigaraki ware in Shiga prefecture. Shigaraki ware is very famous and one of the “Six Old Kilns” in Japan.  Shigaraki tanuki is an adorable creature with 8 lucky meanings often seen at the front porch of houses and the entrance of restaurants in Japan.
