Wonderful woodblock print 和合曽我誉富士"Wagō soga homare no Fuji" (Harmonious Soga, A Mountain of Honor) is by Yoshitaki Nakai/Utagawa (1841-1899). Yoshitaki was the most prolific designer of woodblock prints in Osaka from the 1860s to the 1880s.
They are three sheets of polyptych (four sheets), Actor 実川八百蔵 "Jitsukawa Yaozo" as 京ノ次郎 "Kyono Jiro", Actor 市川右団次 "Ichikawa Udanji" as 三浦之助 "Miuranosuke", and Actor 中村嘉七 "Nakamura Kashichi" as 根ノ井大弥太 "Nenoi Oyata" in the play "Wagō soga homare no Fuji" from 曽我物語 "Soga monogatari" (Tale of the Soga). The publisher's name is "八百善”(Yaozen), printed in Meiji 8 nen 3 gastu (March in 1875). Each print has the actor's name, publisher's name, and artist's name "Yositaki hitsu".

This heartwarming woodblock print, "Children and Summer Festival" is by Hitoshi Kiyohara (1896-1956). Printed in Showa 30 nen (1955). This print shows the Japanese game "Kingyo - Sukui" in summer. "Kingyo - Sukui" (Goldfish scooping) is a traditional Japanese game in which a player scoops goldfish with a special scooper with very thin Japanese washi paper. It is easy to break when it gets wet. It is a very hard game. Japanese summer festivals commonly have a stall for this activity. Both children and adults enjoy the game. This game started in the late Edo period, around 1810. Today it is so popular that stalls can be found at many "summer festivals" in Japan.

This extremely rare woodblock print "Janome" (Umbrella) is by Tatsumi Shimura (1907-1980). One of my favorite Shimura prints. "Janome" is an oiled-paper parasol with a bull's-eye design. Limited edition size of only 200 sheets. Published by Yuyudo. Carver name; Kentaro Maeda, Printer name; Ritsuzo Sato on the lower right margin. Large red "Tatsumi Kenin" seal in the lower right margin reads, "Tatsumi seal of approval". Beautiful colors and amazing contrast. This print is extremely rare and highly desirable for collectors. I will ship this print with the mat. The mat has a faint spot on the top-left t side and toning on the edges, however, still looks great with this lovely print.

Wonderful woodblock print "Yokushitsu nite" (At The Bath) from "Rajo jusshu" (Ten female nudes) is by Toraji Ishikawa (1875-1964) Printed in Showa 10 nen (1935). Still remains a piece of the original thin overlay paper on the left edge of verso. The image part is very good with fine colors. This print would be wonderful with a new complementary frame.

The truly elegant woodblock print "Fuka Senrin" (Floating Camellia and Carp) is by Gyoshu Hayami (1894-1935). Published by Tanseisha. Gyoshu Hayami (1894-1935) was a Nihonga (Japanese painting) artist. He died quite young. He left many masterpieces in his short life, and "Meiju Chiri Tsubaki"(Camellia Petals Scattering) was first designated as an important cultural artwork in the Showa period.
