This beautiful print is by really cool Japanese contemporary artist Kozo Mio (1923-2000) He was born in Nagoya in 1923. The international contemporary artist (painter, printmaker, and illustrator ) who brought a new wave in a Japanese concreteness picture by a picture-like fantasy picture by the airbrush technique. His artwork is very familiar in Japan, his artwork was used as the cover of "Focus" (very famous Japanese magazine) until 1989 since 1956. studying traditional Japanese painting at the Kyoto Municipal School of Fine Arts, he turned to oils and, in the early part of his career, painted in a fairly straightforward descriptive style. Soon, however, he began to use the airbrush, concentrating on creating highly distorted figures and confirming his tendency to express his vision of modern society in psychological terms. Kozo Mio received the Grand Prix of the Biennial International Exhibition of Figurative Paintings.
He is a well-known air-brushed technique artist. (*Air-brushed acrylic pigment onto the veneered surface of the canvas.)

This is an amazing woodblock print "Akashicho" (Garden corner) is by Tatsumi Shimura (1907-1980). Tatsumi said about this print, "I feel Akashicho (a very old section of Tokyo) of admiration and admired the depth of the image taste since the founder of a religious sect Kiyokata* died. They were many kept girls by a man in Tsukiji of the Meiji era. The woman who appeared to see off the man who returned early in the morning of early fall. The empty sadness that does not know when he next comes. She put a kimono ( called Awase) on chest (heart) on the bare skin unintentionally in unlined clothes, the morning when it is cold. Few flowers of the reluctance of leaving look like just a woman standing still."
Carver; Kentaro Maeda, Printer; Ritsuzo Sato, and Publisher; Yuyudo. Carver name and printer name on the lower right margin and publisher seal on the lower left margin. Red "Tatsumi Kenin" seal in the lower right margin reads, "Tatsumi seal of approval". Colors are vivid and vibrant and in layers. Lightly embossed. Fabulous modern Bijin-ga print "Shimagasuri" (Modern beauty in Japanese Kimono) is by Matazo Kayama (1927-2004). Matazo Kayama was a Japanese Nihon-ga painter of the 20th century, born in Kyoto in 1927. He is a well-known artist in Japan and also a worldwide artist. Many of his artworks have been sold at famous auctions, including Christie's New York. This print is highly desirable and hard to find. This print shows modern and cool Japanese beauty. Very exotic and mysterious mood. Shimagasuri is a type of Japanese Kimono fabric that has been woven with fibers dyed specifically to create stripe patterns in the fabric.
Colors are vivid, vibrant and have amazing contrast. All information about this print is on the right margin. Original woodblock print by Matazo Kayama and title "Shimagasuri" in Japanese, model name, carver name, printer name. Printed in 1989, and edition number 120/200, Publisher name. Pencil signed by the artist on the bottom of the information.
I just want to add information about his model. Her name is Yufu (written Yufu but called Yuu, very old way to read) She was his student at Tama Art University. Kayama had used the same model 'Yuu" for 13 years and he made 3,500 sketches of her. Her husband is also Kayama's student and artist. I read a book and it was very interesting. Yuu became a Nihon-ga (Japanese painting) artist after retiring from being the model for Kayama.

Stone monument "Kokanseki"
Ancient Shirakawa barrier is a historic place and is located about 10 km south of Shirakawa city. It was set up in the 5th century. At that time, there were different ethnic groups in northern Japan. But the Japanese government was expanding its territory to the north. This barrier was built on the main route for protection from the groups. After that, the Japanese government had occupied the whole Tohoku District, then this barrier had felt into desuetude completely. But some of heroes or intellectuals in various periods in history visited here because this legendary site had been the only entrance to Tohoku District. Over time, the remains had been lost completely. In 1800, Sadanobu Matsudaira, the lord of Shirakawa Domain, confirmed the exact location by the study of various historical documents. He built a stone monument at that place. Now there are only the stone monument, Shirakawa Shrine built-in 771, and some landmarks of buildings and moats.
