The stunning woodblock print 'Showa-Shinzan' (Showa-Shinzan in Hokkaido) by Junichiro Sekino beautifully captures the daily scenery of Showa-Shinzan in Hokkaido. Mount Showa-Shinzan was formed by volcanic activity that began in 1943 (Showa 18). What was once a flat wheat field rose repeatedly over the course of just two years, eventually becoming a mountain. That is why it is called Showa-Shinzan, meaning "Showa's new mountain."
The print, featuring a small village at the foot of the mountain, along with interesting clouds and smoke, creates a uniquely peaceful view. It is printed on special watermarked paper marked with "Jun. Sekino." The title is hand-signed "Jun Sekino," with the artist's red seal, "Jun," in the lower right corner of the image.
