- Tsuki Iwatesan (Moon over Mount Iwate) -

This large-format woodblock print, Tsuki Iwatesan (Moon over Mount Iwate), by Tomikichiro Tokuriki (1902–2000), depicts Mount Iwate beneath a quiet moonlit sky. Rendered in cool gradations of blue, the composition brings together the still surface of the river, softly silhouetted trees, and the snow-touched mountain rising majestically in the distance. A single glowing window adds a subtle touch of warmth to the serene evening landscape. Tokuriki is admired for his ability to unite decorative beauty with a strong sense of place, and this print is a fine example of his distinctive style and deeply evocative atmosphere.

Issued as part of Tokuriki’s Iwate Meisho (Famous Places of Iwate) series, the print is dated January 1980. The Japanese title appears in the upper left corner of the image, while the artist’s “Tomi” signature and red seal appear in the lower left. The edition number, the artist’s hand-signed “T. Tokuriki,” and the date 1980 are written in pencil along the lower margin. The series title, Iwate Meisho, and the date Shōwa 55 nen 1 gatsu (January 1980) appear in the right margin. A “Tomi” watermark is visible in the lower right corner.

Condition: Overall in good condition. There is a visible mat line and toning in the margins, which can be concealed with matting. The verso has tape residue and slight staining at the corners, with some discoloration showing through to the upper and lower left margins, as shown in the photographs. The image area remains in superb condition. The price has been adjusted accordingly.
