The charming woodblock print "Toriimoto" (Toriimoto, Kyoto) by Masao Ido (1945–2016) depicts the historic village of Toriimoto on the western outskirts of Kyoto. The focal point is the renowned teahouse Tsutaya, a beloved landmark in the Saga-Toriimoto Preservation District. The traditional noren curtain hanging at the entrance reads "Tsutaya," welcoming travelers as it has for generations.
Rich summer greenery surrounds the picturesque teahouse, while the dappled shadows cast across the ground create a refreshing sense of coolness on a warm summer day. Beautifully balanced in composition and atmosphere, the print captures the timeless tranquility and nostalgic charm of old Kyoto. Printed on cream-colored paper.
