The woodblock print "Togakushi-yama" (Mount Togakushi) by Tomikichiro Tokuriki (1902–2000) beautifully depicts the majestic view of Mount Togakushi in Nagano Prefecture. This mountain is deeply rooted in Japanese mythology and is considered a sacred site.

According to legend, when the sun goddess Amaterasu Omikami hid herself in the Heavenly Rock Cave, the deity Tajikarao no Mikoto hurled the cave's stone door with great force, which is said to have landed and formed Mount Togakushi. Today, three major shrines are nestled within the mountain’s lush forests, with a dramatic rock wall rising steeply behind them—an awe-inspiring setting that perfectly evokes the mythic origins of the site. Mount Togakushi is not only visually stunning but also a place of deep spiritual significance.

The artist’s signature, “Tomi,” along with his red seal and the title, appears in the lower right corner of the image. The print is hand-signed “T. Tokuriki” in the bottom margin. The Japanese title of the series, the date, and the edition number—78/100 (first edition)—are noted in the right margin.
