The remarkable woodblock print “Shufuji” (Vermilion Mount Fuji) by Masao Ido depicts Mount Fuji at dawn, bathed in a dreamlike glow. Occurring from late summer into early autumn, this rare phenomenon transforms the snow-free slopes of Mount Fuji into a luminous crimson under the morning sun. Because it appears only under precise seasonal and atmospheric conditions, “Red Fuji” is regarded as an especially auspicious sight in Japan. The artist masterfully captures the rich colors and subtle gradations of the mountain.
