A beautifully balanced woodblock print, Iwabuchimachi no Fuji (Mt. Fuji at Iwabuchimachi), from the series Thirty-six Views of Mt. Fuji, by Tomikichirō Tokuriki (1902–2000), depicts a fire watchtower and village rooftops with Mt. Fuji rising in the distance. The contrast between this everyday scene and the mountain’s enduring presence gives the composition a serene, contemplative quality.

Published by Uchida in Shōwa 15 (1940), this is a first-edition impression. The right margin includes the Japanese title, the artist’s and publisher’s names, and a copyright seal. In the upper-left of the image, the artist’s signature, “Tomikichirō saku,” appears with two red seals. The upper seal incorporates a Mt. Fuji emblem and “36-kei,” referring to the Thirty-six Views of Mt. Fuji series; the lower seal is the publisher’s.

Condition: Overall in good to fair condition for its age, with colors that remain vibrant. Acquired as found from an old estate in Japan, the print retains its original folder and a small explanatory sheet in Japanese. It shows age toning and a visible window line corresponding to the opening in the folder. There are faint spots on the front, including within the image area; these are faintly noticeable to a casual observer. Spots (foxing) are also visible on the verso. The folder has considerable age-related staining and foxing throughout. The price has been reduced accordingly. Please refer to the photographs for details.
