- Ishibei-koji (Ishibe-Koji, Kyoto) -

The refined woodblock print Ishibei-koji (Ishibei-Koji, Kyoto) by Masao Ido (1945–2016) depicts one of Kyoto’s most atmospheric stone-paved lanes. Located in the Higashiyama district, this charming passage is just wide enough for two people to walk side by side, preserving the character of old Kyoto within a short stretch.

In this vertical composition, quiet walls, bamboo fencing, and seasonal foliage draw the eye gently inward toward the traditional rooftops beyond. The delicate balance of light, shadow, and soft color conveys the lane’s calm elegance and timeless charm. It is a place I enjoy stopping by whenever I visit Kyoto.
