The serene woodblock print ’Gion Shirakawa Tatsumi-Bashi’ (Tatsumi-Bashi Bridge in Gion, Kyoto) is by Mataichiro Isoda (1902–1998). This print captures the beauty of a snowy day in Gion, depicting a Japanese woman gracefully walking with an umbrella. The delicate snow adds a touch of elegance to the already picturesque scene.
The artist's signature, with a red seal, is in the lower right corner of the image. The printer's name, Sugimoto, and the Unsodo publisher's seal are located in the right margin. The Japanese title and the publisher's watermark appear in the upper left margin. First published in Showa 22 (1947), this is a later printing from the original blocks. As an older print from the Showa era, it is long out of print.
