- Yufu-dake (Mt. Yufu) -

The phenomenal woodblock print 'Yufu-dake' (Mt. Yufu) by Takeji Asano captures a serene sunset view of Mt. Yufu. Yufu-dake is an active volcano located in Yufu City, Ōita Prefecture, with an altitude of 1,583m. Its beautiful shape has earned it the nickname "Bungo Fuji," making it one of Kyushu's most iconic landmarks.

The print depicts the mountain's two peaks side by side, known as a "double peak," as the warm colors of the setting sun create a fantastical sight. The artist masterfully captures the tranquil landscape simply, with a small village nestled at the foot of the mountain, protected by its grandeur.

The title 'Yufu-dake' and  'Takeji ga, koku' ("Drawn and carved by Takeji") appear in Japanese in the lower-left corner of the image.
