- Kiyomizu Temple in the Autumnm, Kyoto -

The small woodblock print 'Kiyomizu Temple in the Autumn, Kyoto' is by Tobei Kamei (1901–1977). It depicts a beautiful autumn view of Kyoto’s landmark, Kiyomizu Temple. The artist’s red seal appears in the upper left corner of the image, while the Japanese title and the artist’s signature are printed in the upper right. The original card stock bears the English title.

The print is preserved and mounted on its original card stock, making it a wonderful collectible for admirers of Kyoto’s iconic places.

Kamei Tobei (1901–1977), whose real name was Eiichi, later changed his given name from Tobei to Genbei. He was born in Wakayama Prefecture in 1901. Tobei moved to Kyoto in 1919, studied under Kosai Yamada, and graduated from Kyoto Painting College in 1932. He exhibited his work at the Teiten and Shunyo-kai exhibitions, and is best known for his evocative landscapes of Kyoto.
