Shigaraki Tanuki
The tanuki statue is a symbol of Shigaraki ware from Shiga Prefecture, where Nishijima lives. Shigaraki ware is well known and is one of the "Six Old Kilns" of Japan. The Shigaraki tanuki is an adorable figure associated with eight lucky meanings, often seen on the front porches of homes and at the entrances of restaurants throughout Japan.
