The rare woodblock print "Ryugan Budou" (Grapes) is by Susumu Yamaguchi (1897-1983). Dated "'80", sheet number 8/30, and signature on the bottom margin by the artist. The artist's round seal "Yama" (mountain mark) in the lower right corner of the image and the artist's square red seal "Yamaguchi Susumu" in Kanji on the lower right margin. Please notice a bee on the grape. A nice handmade woodblock print with a warm Showa-era mood.
Susumu Yamaguchi was born in 1897 in Nagano, Japan. His handmade print which combines strength and softness continues to fascinate people both inside and outside of Japan. He created many wonderful woodblock prints with the theme of the mountains of Shinshu. (His hometown) This subject is quite rare.
