- Nara no shika (Deer at Nara) -

Shiro Kasamatsu

3144

Breathtaking woodblock print "Nara no shika" (Deer at Nara) is by Shiro Kasamtsu (1898 - 1992). This is one of my favorite Kasamatsu prints. The publisher is Watanabe. It has a Watanabe "D"seal (1931-1941) on the lower-right margin. Title "Nara no shika" on the left margin.  A beautiful girl with a bright-colored Kimono and adorable deer against the subtle background. The girl is feeding the Shika senbei (Cracker for the deer) to the deer. Really heartwarming and charming subject. This print is really hard to find.
