The elegant woodblock print “Katata no Ukimidō” (Ukimidō Temple of Katata), from Tomikichiro Tokuriki’s Ōmi Hakkei (Eight Views of Ōmi Province) series, is a hand-signed, limited-edition work of refined beauty.

This captivating composition portrays the famed Ukimidō (Floating Pavilion) of Mangetsu-ji Temple in Katata, set along the western shore of Lake Biwa under the quiet glow of night. Extending gracefully over the water, the pavilion appears to hover upon the lake’s surface, while moonlight shimmers across the rippling expanse. A small wooden boat and the distant twinkle of town lights introduce a gentle warmth, balancing the cool tranquility of the scene.

The Japanese title, along with the artist’s signature “Tomi” and red seal, appears in the upper right, while the series title Ōmi Hakkei is printed in the margin. The lower right corner of the image bears the watermark “Tomi” A timeless and tranquil composition, beautifully capturing the spirit of this iconic landscape.
