"Kyoto Folklore Toy – Paper Masks of Kyogen from Mibu" by Tomikichiro Tokuriki (1902–2000) is a charming small woodblock print, rich in vibrant color and traditional character. It depicts three papier-mâché masks representing Kyogen characters from Mibu, Kyoto.

Mibu Kyogen is performed as part of Buddhist rituals at Mibu-dera Temple (Kyoto Prefecture). It is a silent masked drama enacted to widely disseminate the teachings of Buddhism.

Tokuriki’s signature, “To,” appears in the lower right corner of the image. The print is beautifully preserved and mounted on its original presentation paper—a wonderful collectible for admirers of Japanese culture and folk art.
