- Karasaki no Yau (Night rain at Karasaki) from the series “Eight Views of Ōmi Province"

The superb woodblock print “Karasaki no Yau” (Night Rain at Karasaki), from Tomikichiro Tokuriki’s rare and highly regarded Ōmi Hakkei (Eight Views of Ōmi Province) series, is a hand-signed, limited-edition work. This print depicts a scene of night rain falling upon the ancient pine tree at Karasaki Shrine, located on the southwestern shore of Lake Biwa. It wonderfully captures a tranquil atmosphere and timeless beauty.

The print is signed “T. Tokuriki” and numbered in pencil in the lower right corner of the image. The Japanese title and the artist’s signature “Tomi,” accompanied by his red seal, appear in the upper right. The right margin also includes “Ōmi Hakkei” (the series title), “Shohan” (First Edition), and “Hanmoto Matsukyu” (the publisher’s name, Matsukyu).

This location has inspired many Japanese artists over the years, and Tokuriki’s interpretation beautifully conveys its calm spirit and poetic charm.
