The beautiful woodblock print ’Fuji Jū-Nikei no Uchi, Tōto Kinegawa Tanbo' (Rice Paddies at Kinegawa, from Twelve Views of Mt. Fuji) is by Hiroshige Ando (1797–1858). The print captures a serene view of Kinegawa village in winter. Beyond the expansive rice fields lies a winter-bare forest, and in the distance, snow-covered Mount Fuji towers over the landscape. This is the scenery of Kinoshitagawa village, where time flows quietly and slowly. A horse carrying a pile of pine trees for New Year's Kadomatsu decorations walks along, while people inside a thatched-roof house are pounding rice cakes for the New Year. This work appears to have been created in December when preparations for the New Year are underway.
The title "Tōto Kinegawa Tanbo", "Hiroshige" red seal, and embossed seal are in the left of the image. When Hiroshige was in his late 50s, he drew this series (Twelve Views of Mt. Fuji). They were originally sketchbooks/picture albums of hand-painting. They are very delicate, and the subtle colors are beautiful. This woodblock print is a high-quality Fukkoku Mokuhan (reproduction woodblock print) by Yoshio Kawazura (1880–1963). Printed in Taisho 14 (1925). This is rarely on the market. It is still tipped on the original folder.
