- Yuki no Ashita (Sight After Snow) -

The beautiful woodblock print Yuki no Ashita (Scene After Snow) is by Shiba Kōkan (1747–1818). Although the print bears the inscription “Harunobu-ga” (“picture by Harunobu”), it is in fact the work of Shiba Kōkan, a pupil of Suzuki Harunobu (1725–1770), rather than Harunobu himself. Shortly after Harunobu’s death, Kōkan produced a small number of works in Harunobu’s style under Harunobu name. These pieces are highly regarded for their exceptional quality and artistic merit, and have become well known.

Originally created in the Edo period, this example is a recarved edition published by Adachi during the Shōwa era. The print features beautiful colors and intricate details, showcasing the high level of craftsmanship for which Adachi editions are renowned. The Adachi publisher’s seal appears on the left edge of the verso. This piece is accompanied by an explanatory sheet in both Japanese and English.
