The beautiful woodblock print Tōji Zensei Bijin Zoroi, Hyōgoya uchi Hanazuma (A Collection of Contemporary Popular Beauties: Hanazuma of the Hyōgoya House) is after the original design by Kitagawa Utamaro (1753–1806). It portrays Hanazuma, a celebrated courtesan of the Hyōgoya House in the Yoshiwara district, with refined elegance and feminine poise. She is shown holding a letter, a detail that adds a quiet sense of intimacy to the composition while reflecting the sophistication and beauty associated with late eighteenth-century Edo culture.

Originally printed during the Edo period, this is a recarved edition from the late Shōwa era (1980–1990). The publisher is Yuyudo; however, this print is part of Utamaro’s ukiyo-e collection issued as “not for sale.” This woodblock print features high-quality colors and intricate details. The delicate texture of the summer kimono is rendered with remarkable skill, beautifully conveying the lightness and fine weave of the fabric.
