The breathtaking woodblock print "Nojiri-ko" (Lake Nojiri) by Tomikichiro Tokuriki (1902–2000) captures a stunning view of Lake Nojiri in Nagano Prefecture. Nestled in the mountains of northern Nagano, this mysterious and tranquil lake is known for its crystal-clear surface, reflecting the ever-changing moods of the seasons and weather like a soothing mirror of nature. On a small, wooded island—hidden from view—stands Uga Shrine, its presence suggested by ancient stone towers and a vivid red torii gate. Tokuriki’s masterful use of color and contrast evokes the lake’s quiet magic and timeless beauty.
The artist’s signature, “Tomi,” along with his red seal and the title, appears in the lower right corner of the image. The print is hand-signed “T. Tokuriki” in the bottom margin. The Japanese title of the series, the date, and the edition number—78/100 (first edition)—are noted in the right margin.
