- Kiyomizu Sogetsu (Blue Moon at Kiyomizu, Kyoto) -

The breathtaking woodblock print “Kiyomizu Sogetsu” (Blue Moon at Kiyomizu, Kyoto) by Masao Ido (1945–2016) presents a dreamlike nocturnal view of Kiyomizu in Kyoto, where a graceful pagoda rises beneath the glow of a luminous full moon. Rendered in deep blue tones, the composition evokes a quiet, romantic atmosphere filled with mystery and serenity.

The intricate detailing throughout the work, together with the delicate use of gold and silver leaf, lends the print a remarkable sense of richness and radiance. Both mesmerizing and poetic, it is an absolutely stunning example of Ido’s celebrated vision of Kyoto. Personally, I consider this work to be one of Masao Ido’s masterpieces.

Condition: Overall, very good condition. There are faint ink smudges on the margins, which will be matted out. There are also very slight scuffs on the upper right, center,  and left edges of the verso from tape removal.
