The serene woodblock print “Jakkoin Koyo” (Jakkoin in Autumn Colors) by Takeji Asano (1900–1999) is from the celebrated series Snow, Moon and Flowers of the Famous Temples in Kyoto. The print depicts the stone approach to Jakkoin, the historic temple in Ohara on the northern outskirts of Kyoto, known for its secluded setting and tranquil atmosphere. Beneath a canopy of autumn leaves, the stone path leads toward the temple gate, while the tall trees and small figures enhance the quiet, contemplative character of the scene. Rendered in muted greys, soft blue-greens, and delicate yellow and red foliage, the work beautifully captures the peaceful atmosphere of Kyoto in autumn.

The left margin features the date Shōwa 15 nen 11 gatsu saku (November 1940) and the series title Kyōraku Meisatsu Setsugekka no Uchi (Snow, Moon and Flowers of the Famous Temples in Kyoto). The title “Jakkoin Koyo” (Jakkoin in Autumn Colors) appears in the bottom margin. The lower right margin features “Takeji suri” (printed by Takeji), while the lower left corner of the image includes “Takeji ga koku” (designed and carved by Takeji), reflecting the artist’s direct involvement in the printmaking process.
