- Ise Asama-yama yori Fuji enbo (Distant View of Mt. Fuji from Mt. Asama in Ise) -

A refined woodblock print, Ise Asama-yama yori Fuji enbo (Distant View of Mt. Fuji from Mt. Asama in Ise), from the series Thirty-six Views of Mt. Fuji, by Tomikichirō Tokuriki (1902–2000), depicts the expansive view from Mt. Asama in Ise, long known as one of the most distant places from which Mt. Fuji can be seen. Layers of mountains and drifting clouds create a lyrical sense of depth, while Fuji’s faint silhouette lends the composition a quiet, poetic grandeur.

Published by Uchida in Shōwa 15 (1940), this is a first-edition impression. The right margin includes the Japanese title, the artist’s and publisher’s names, and a copyright seal. In the lower-right of the image, the artist’s signature, “Tomikichirō saku,” appears with two red seals. The upper seal incorporates a Mt. Fuji emblem and “36-kei,” referring to the Thirty-six Views of Mt. Fuji series; the lower seal is the publisher’s seal.

These image-area spots are faintly noticeable; the spots and foxing along the upper margin and on the verso are more visible. The folder has considerable age-related staining and foxing throughout.
