The refined woodblock print Fujo Ninsō Juppon: Tegami wo Yomu Onna (Woman Reading a Letter, from the series Ten Types in the Physiognomic Study of Women) is after the original design by Kitagawa Utamaro (1753–1806). It portrays a young woman absorbed in the quiet act of reading a letter. Her poised profile, elegant hands, and delicately patterned robes reflect Utamaro’s celebrated ability to convey grace, introspection, and subtle emotion. Set against a softly shimmering pink mica background, the figure stands out with remarkable clarity and presence, while the luminous surface lends the composition an air of quiet luxury. As in Utamaro’s finest bijin-ga (pictures of beautiful women), an intimate everyday moment is transformed into an image of timeless beauty and psychological depth.

Originally printed during the Edo period, this is a recarved edition from the late Shōwa era (approximately 1980–1990), published by Yuyudo. This impression was issued as part of Yuyudo’s Utamaro ukiyo-e collection and was designated “not for sale.” The print displays high-quality color printing, a beautiful mica background, and finely rendered details that reflect the skill and craftsmanship of traditional Japanese woodblock printing.
