- Dewa-gassan (Mt. Gassan in Dewa) -

The serene woodblock print "Dewa-gassan" (Mt. Gassan in Dewa) by Tomikichiro Tokuriki beautifully captures the majestic landscape of Mt. Gassan in Yamagata Prefecture. Rendered in refreshing shades of blue and green, the composition depicts the mountain rising above a tranquil lakeside, with lingering snow on its broad slopes and the fresh greenery of early summer below. A small orange mountain hut provides a striking focal point amid the vast natural scenery.

Mt. Gassan is renowned for its broad, gently sloping summit, snow that often remains well into summer, and rich alpine flora. It is also one of Japan's Three Sacred Mountains (Dewa Sanzan) and has long been revered as a sacred site of Shugendō, where it is believed that ancestral spirits reside. Tokuriki beautifully conveys both the mountain's natural grandeur and its quiet spiritual atmosphere.

The print is pencil-signed "T. Tokuriki" in the lower margin. The artist's block signature and red seal, both reading "Tomi," appear in the lower right corner of the image. The Japanese title "Dewa-gassan" appears in the left margin. The edition number is written in pencil in the lower right margin, and the artist's distinctive "Tomi" watermark is also present.
