- Cherry Blossoms and Deer Along the Canal, Miyajima -

The beautiful small woodblock print “Horikawa to Sakura” (Cherry Blossoms and Deer Along the Canal, Miyajima) is by Osamu Ueda (b. 1947). This print depicts a bustling street filled with people enjoying cherry blossom viewing in Miyajima, a well-known landmark in Hiroshima. Cherry blossoms and deer coexist along the canal, while the streets are lively with people and food stalls. It is a very cheerful and vibrant image.

Osamu Ueda was born in 1947 in Hiroshima Prefecture. He has an unusual background, having graduated from the Faculty of Dentistry at Hiroshima University. He and his father, Isao Ueda (b. 1924), held an exhibition together at the Kure Municipal Museum of Art. Both father and son are known for their warm artistic style.
