The beautiful woodblock print "Baika ni Uso" (Bullfinch in the Plum Blossoms) is by Shoson Ohara (1877 - 1945) This is a later print from the original blocks. Published by Watanabe publisher. Artist's signature "Shoson" with the artist's red seal, and two Watanabe Seals in the lower right corner. Very soft romantic colors and amazing contrast. The theme of "Small birds in the plum blossoms" is found extensively in Japanese artistic tradition. Absolutely beautiful.
According to the Watanabe publisher, In conjunction with the Daihei Print Shop, Ryogoku, this artist made bird and flower designs for color prints under the name "Koson". In 1912, he changed his name to "Shoson" and produced only paintings until 1926, when he returned to color prints, which have been published in connection with the Watanabe print shop (Watanabe publisher).
