- Aichi Ouka no Horai-ji (Cherry Blossoms at Horai-ji Temple, Aichi) -

The breathtaking woodblock print Aichi Ouka no Horai-ji (Cherry Blossoms at Horai-ji Temple, Aichi) is by Tomikichiro Tokuriki (1902–2000). This very large print captures the serene spring image of Horai-ji Temple on Mt. Horai in Aichi Prefecture.

Horai-ji Temple is located halfway up Mt. Horai, which stands 695 meters above sea level and is composed of rhyolite and other rocks, remnants of a volcano from 15 million years ago. The temple is said to have been founded by a hermit named Rishu about 1,300 years ago (703 AD). This print beautifully captures its spiritual atmosphere.

The Japanese title, the artist's signature "Tomi," and the artist's red seal appear in the upper right corner of the image. The limited edition number and the artist's hand-signed "T. Tokuriki" in pencil are on the bottom margin. The Japanese title and the date "Showa 55 nen" (1980) are on the right margin. A watermark reading "Tomi" is in the upper left corner.

Condition: Very good condition with vibrant colors. Minor natural paper crease on the top margin and a couple of very faint spots on the bottom margin edge, which will be matted out.
