The fantastic woodblock print “Gion Matsuri” (Gion Festival, Kyoto) is by Taizo Minagawa (1917–2005). The colors and designs characteristic of Minagawa, a dyeing artist, beautifully depict the scenery of Kyoto, with striking portrayals of the portable shrines and festival floats of the Gion Festival. Minagawa's artwork is truly unique, and his dynamic compositions and bold designs are especially captivating. The title “Gion Matsuri,” the artist’s name “Minagawa Taizo saku,” the publisher Unsodo, the carver Monju, and the printer Takenaka are listed in the left margin.
