The woodblock print “8 gatu to 10 gatsu no Aida, III” (Between August and October, III) by Mitsuru Hiraki (b. 1958) was printed in 2004 in a limited edition of only 30. This striking large-format work depicts the gentle transition between summer and autumn through richly symbolic fruit imagery. Buds emerge, growth unfolds, and new life quietly takes form, resulting in a composition filled with vitality and movement. Vivid, luminous colors and a pop-inspired design are beautifully integrated with the natural wood grain, creating a dreamlike visual effect. Delicate gold lines radiating from the seeds add an elegant accent and enhance the print’s sense of energy and renewal.
Born in Yamaguchi Prefecture in 1958, Hiraki received his Master of Fine Arts from Tama Art University in 1983. His works have been exhibited widely in Japan and internationally, yet rarely remain available on the market, making them distinctive and highly collectible.
